Organizing 101

Organizing 101

Here are a few tips to help you get started....

1. Organizing takes practice.  Practice doesn't necessarily mean perfect...it means it's progress!

2. Build habits for yourself and your children.

3. If you take something out, put it away.  Teach your children this too.

4. Start small.  Set a timer for 15 minutes and clear out ONE drawer, ONE basket, or ONE shelf.

5. Don’t go to bed without cleaning up your hot spots (places where clutter seems to happen!)

6. Be flexible.  If it isn’t working for you, try it a different way.

7. Make a plan of what you want to do.  Write it down!

8. It doesn’t have to be pretty, but when it is you’ll be more likely to want to keep it that way.

9. You CAN NOT be organized if you have clutter.

How do I know where to start?
  •           Begin with whatever bothers you the most
  •           Start in a room that you spend the most time in
  •           Start with the first thing you see in the morning
  •           Start with the first thing you see when you get home from work
  •           START SMALL!!!

Basic Step to Organizing

      1.    Remove Everything
2.       Decide what goes back
3.       Divide what doesn’t go back into 3 piles, baskets, bags, etc.
           a.       Trash
           b.      Goes somewhere else
           c.       Give away
4.       Decide the best way to put things back in the space you have.
5.       Label it
6.       Put it away
7.    Keep it in Order!!!!
